چکیده

The quality of electric power has been a constant topic of study, mainly because inherent problems to it can lead to great economic losses, especially in industrial processes. Among the various factors that affect power quality, those related to transients originating from capacitor bank (CB) switching in the primary distribution systems must be highlighted. This paper ‎presents an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based approach to ‎estimate the transient overvoltages due to capacitor ‎energization. In proposed methodology, Levenberg-Marquardt ‎second order method is used to train the multilayer perceptron. ANN training is based on equivalent parameters of the network. Therefore, trained ANN is applicable to every studied system. The ‎developed ANN is trained with the extensive simulated results, and ‎tested for typical cases. Then the new algorithms are presented and demonstrated for a partial of 39-bus New England test system. The simulated results ‎show that the proposed technique can

Transient Minimization Within Static Var Compensated Distribution Systems

VAR support should be supplied as close to the load as possible to minimize transmission losses. For voltage control and for improvement of total power factor in a distribution system the circuit- breaker switched capacitor banks can be used. The problems with this solution are the voltage steps caused by the large sizes of the capacitor banks as well as the transients caused on insertion. Thyr...

Shunt Capacitor Placement in Radial Distribution Networks Considering Switching Transients Decision Making Approach

This paper provides a new approach in decision making process for shunt capacitor placement in distribution networks. The main core of the evaluation process is a multi-objective framework to allocate the capacitor banks. The power loss and the total harmonic distortion (THD) are the objective functions of the system under study in a long-term planning horizon. In order to select the executive ...

Mitigation of Transient Overvoltages Generated Due to Switching Operations and Lightning in Gas-insulated Substation (GIS) Without Extra Limiter

Gas-insulated substations (GIS) have different specifications in proportion to air-insulated substations. Transformer failures related to lightning and switching are often reported in the gas insulated substation (GIS). This problem is the voltage magnifications due to reflections of switching and lightning surges at various junctions within the GIS. thereby overvoltages in GIS are more importa...

Radial Basis Function Neural Network Application to Power System Restoration Studies

One of the most important issues in power system restoration is overvoltages caused by transformer switching. These overvoltages might damage some equipment and delay power system restoration. This paper presents a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) to study transformer switching overvoltages. To achieve good generalization capability for developed RBFNN, equivalent parameters of the ...
